closing discussion (Dec 11)
1.6.5 conclusion: the extent of the 'extensions of man'
When I see some of the arts which used by Internet or network or computer stuff,
I am very impressed. How come they make thier arts?
Are they good at art even computer??
Apparently, they don't know much about computer things.
However, they are using computer very well.
I may think they could use stuff which they know much or use only.
The funny thing is that computer programers ignore them.
Artists only know part of computer stuff.
On the other hand, computer programers know whole part of computer.
They would say "We don't want to tell that artists know computer."
Painters and sculptors even ingore them who make art using network things.
They don't sweat when they make their works.
Do you think it is art? even though they don't make it??
In my opinion, while our life is getting change, our arts should change.
Because our technological things are being developing.
We use not only our life but also our arts.

Which one is the prior? content or medium?
new media: determining or determined? 2 (Dec 6)
1.6.3 Williams and the social shaping of technology
1.6.4 the many virtues of Sant McLuhan
There were two view points.
First one is that contents should be change to express medium.
The other is that let contents leave originally, we chage medium.
I will give a example about "music video"
We can define the content is the song and medium is the music-video.
When Sungmo Cho's music video came out, it was sensation.
Because we saw like a movie, which made well.
However, the problem is that we didn't recongnize music at first.
Because the image is more stimulating the nerves system than music.
There is the song, that' why music-video made.
However we more care about music-video than the song.
In other way, there is a music-video, that' why the song was popular.

remediation
new media: determining or determined? 2 (Dec 4)
1.6.2 mapping Marshall McLuhan and Williams
1.6.3 Williams and the social shaping of technology
When I was a elementary school student, my teacher taught us a game.
The way of a game is that one by one tell one story, which he gave.
That is, one student told story to another sutdent, who sit back of her until the last student heard.
Finally, the last student, who sit the end of row, said what story was.
But it is funny that the story was totally different from his story.
Because every student changed the story a little bit what they understood.
Whichever story they hear, they understand their own way.
At reult, story tellig is a remediation. It couldb't accept exactly. It is changeable easily.
Moreover, culture develope so fast even we can't measure.
Because we change our culture, what taste we want.

fascism and stalinism
new media: determining or determined? 1 (Nov 29)
1.6.1 the status of McLuhan and Williams
Let people not care about politics.
Why? If there are too many people who interfere in politics,
Politicians would not be any good.
So how people make not to care?
There was a "3S"strategy, which one of our president used before.
What is 3S? sport, sex, screen.
people were eager for 3S, when our politics went bad.

central culture vs popular culture
new media: determining or determined? 1 (Nov 27)
1.5.5 the return of the Frankfurt school critique in the popularisation of new media & conclusion
Central culture could be defined that people who deserve to have or listen to arts, such as expensive drawings or opera, classic music.
However, popular music is defined that everyone could access such as TV or cartoon etc...
First one was handed down well by rich people or educated people.
But the other was not. Even though there were music and play of people who were not well-educated. Because of their illiterate, they couldn't preserve their own culture.
Both of culture might be changed each other.
Most of the people are familar with popular culture, so it could be center.
Anyway I just thought if there is no a division into central and popular culture,
I mean, whoever can be eligible for taking central culture,
everyone could have both culture freely and more people know about arts.

Discourse
who was dissatisfied with old media? (Nov 20, Nov 22)
1.5.1 the question
1.5.2 the technological imaginary
1.5.3 the discursive construction of new media & conclusion
"Discourse"
I don't even know what it is exact.
I heard that discourse is not only texts but also general map to post-structuralist.
It helps distingush between literature and not-literature.
That is discourse what I know..however it is complicate for me.
Pro.Yoon mention about prison and hospital.
How were those built.
Whoever have mental problems or break the laws, they were put in a jail, at that time.
But ,in 19c, the prison was seperated from the jail and mental hospital.
For having mental deseases, they need not put in jail but need treat.
That's why the mental hospital was built..
However, the funny thing is that artists, who are very famous with us, usually have
mental problems.
At that time there weren't the hospital so they couldn't treat much.
If they had a treatment, they don't become famous artists who we know.
So I suddenly think that we prevent from people who are very creative.
Because we think they are crazy and odd.
Are there any standards which we distingush people who are crazy or not??

Dejavu
what kind of history? 2 (Nov 11, Nov 13)
1.4.3 the return of the middle ages and other media archaeologies
1.4.4 a sense of deja vu & conclusion
I have had 'Dejavu' experience when I was a child.
At that time, I didn't know the word which I was felt.
Now I know about Dejavu..and there is Dejavu in korean...기지감?
In fact, I couldn't get what relationship between Dejavu and this lecture have.
However, pro.yoon said the story which I memorized.
Our memory is not believable.
I maybe misunderstood what pro.yoon said, because I memorized.
what he said something, I could understand differently.
So I wrote down, but I couldn't write exactly what I understand.
"Word" is not only discorrect but also expressing emotion.
Word isn't enough express what I felt. It just helps me.
However, are we too much dependent on word?
I mean, we always write and read what I wrote or was written by someone.
We may want to keep that memories which we don't want to lose?

perception VS recongnition
what kind of history? 1 (Nov 6, Nov 8)
1.4.1 teleological accounts of new media
1.4.2 new media and the modernist concept of progress
Whenever we saw someting or someone, we have perception and recongnition of them.
What is perception and recongnition?
Perception is the first image of something or someone.
That is, we contact them physically and then understand them.
However, recongnition is the image after we get perception.
That is, after we get experience, we recongnize them.
So perception could be wrong about my knowing.
Because I don't have much about experinces.
I always have wrong view of people. At first, I saw someone who is not familar with me,
I thought he or she is not kind. Because my perception was like this.
However, Getting know her and him, I recongnize I was wrong and misunderstood.
Their appearance makes me get perception.
Even if it could be incorrect about them.

old+new=new?
change and continuity (Oct 30, Nov 1)
1.3.1 introduction & 1.3.2 measuring newness
Old and New!
What are standards for Old and New?
How many years past can we tell "old"?
Difference between Old and New is only years?
Ages include for history and culture which influnece with right now.
That is, to combine old and new make new again.
So if we want to create New, we need also Old.
As I mention, New and Old aren't seperated, those are supporting each other.
Prof. Roger Palmer
I went to see Prof.Roger Palmer who is a professer of Leeds university.
It was quite exiting to know about his art.
Before we recongnize his art, we should know experience which he had.
His pirctures is not only the pictures. That means the pictures don't tell exactly what the pictures show.
Those have lots of meaning and storires.
He has traveled many countries so far.
Whatever he got experience, he represented his work.
When I took pictures, I don't think about much mean of picture.
I just want to have pictures, which show good and pretty.
However my pictures remind me what I was doing and what feeling I was.
I was dreamt by seeing my pictures.
Even thoug I didn't give much stories.

Virtual reality
the characteristics of new media 3 (Oct 23, Oct 25)
1.2.5 virtuality
1.2.6 which virtual reality?
1.2.7 cyberspace & 1.2.8 conclusion
I studied about Jean Baudrillard.
He said that real is more than real(현실보다 더 현실같은...)
Maybe Jean Baudrillard wanted to say that virtual reality comes soon.
What is virtual reality?
Do you think virtual reality looks like reality?
The answer could be 'Yes' or 'No'.
Virtual reality could be real but not exactly real.
On the other hand, virtual reality is existed in reality or virtual reality exists in reality.
You would be confuse when read my writing..
Anyway, we know virtual reality differently.
Because we don't have the same experience and don't live the same space.
When we watch a movie, we even understand it differently.
I think that virtual reality is up to us.
My definition of virtual reality is that we haven't had something before.
I mean, long time ago people didn't know what is computers and the telephone etc..
When they see those items, they would think it is virtual reality.
Even us, when we see some unusal stuff, we think it is not real.
we are very curious about them.
In conclusion, virtual reality is not familiar, but could be the same our reality.

dispersal VS distribute
the characteristics of new media 2 (Oct 9, Oct 11)
1.2.3 hypertext
1.2.4 dispersal
Definition of two words looks similar..but you can find difference.
Distribute is Mass media that means one way. For example, you can fine mass media easily/
TV, Radio etc..
Those send information to us directly...and we get new information which we haven't had.
However, dispersal is new media. It is already exist everywhere.
Wherever you can see around us if we want to know..
That is, we can participate whenever we like and tell whatever we say.
Both of dispersal and distribute should be difference.
Prosumer
Most of people can heard about 'Prosumer'.
Because this is the new word from internet users.
People are now prosumer which put together producer and consumer.
The way is the same of new media(dispersal).
The prosumer is not one way to send like mass media.
If I buy a product, I could give my oppion or what I think of it
and participate in more and more.
I belive that we live in 'Internet Zone'. That's why we could do it.
I'm also the prosumer.
When I buy something, I always tell them my thoughts about products.
hmm..I already live in new media era?

Interactivity & Feedback
the characteristics of new media 1 (Oct 2, Oct 4)
1.2.1 digitality
1.2.2 interactivity
Between interactivity and feedback, do you know difference?
Interactivity is respondings person by person.
When I ask you a question, you would answer my asking.
you would respond in language what I said. We have conversation between you and me.
However, feedback is that I don't expected the answer.
I just know that you get my information.
The presenter gave three problems. I'm going to talk about one of them.
Problem of definition..
People, objects even animal have specific names.
Because we want to distinguish or recongnize of them.
So we only know first definition of words..
For example, "a desk" which we usually use for studying..
But I can use it as "a chair"..I could sit on it..
Most people think me poolish when I point to the desk and say "chair".
Because they have learned the desk is the desk since they were young.
I belive that exact definitions are not exist..
We just give representation of people, objects and even animals...

Analogue and Digital
what are new media? 2 (Sep 27, Oct 2)
1.1.4 non-technical and inclusive
1.1.5 Distinguishing between kinds of new media
First of all, Can you say one word difference between analogue and digital.
The answer would be "tool".
When you see analogue machine and digital machine which are totally different.
However, there are no break(gap).
I believed that digital is basic of analogue. That means if analogue didn't exist, digital would not come out.
So I'm trying to say that I can define both of them what is difference.
But they included each other.
Connotation & denotation
When I was young, my mother hung a picture(material was like a carpet) which was drawing "the last supper". Even though I used to going to chulch, I didn't know what story it was..
One day, a friend of my mother's came home and tried to the stroy.
There was a betrayer who was using the fork.(The story was little bit different from Pro.Yoon's)
After that, the picture was not just the picture for me.
Every time I was trying to find who got the fork and remined the story.
I changed the way how to see pictures
Now when I am viewing some artworks, I try to fine what story writers tell us.
I think I have already known what is Connotation & Denotation,
even though I was very young..^^

What is new media?
what are new media? 1 (Sep 18, Sep 20)
1.1.1 the media as an institution & 1.1.2 the intensity of change
1.1.3 the ideological connotations of the new
At first, What is media?
Media is a kind of method to get to destination which i want to get.
Long time ago, many people thought about media were materials and whatever they
are relevant to media..
However, new media is based on the science..
Like science which has possibility of development, new media also has it.
So new media hasn't be unknown like science..
Nowadays, people combine art and science..maybe those are very familar with each other..
of course, those are totally different ways of study and style..
However, art goes on with science...
This is just my idea, do not say i'm wrong...haha
How about me? what is new for me?
new computer, new boyfriend, new school, new friends ect...
So many things are around me..new stuff which i haven't had before..
But those are very familar with me.

Science VS Asthetic
Traditional Thoughts on Art(Sep.11)
I wonder that between science and asthetic are relevent to each other? and are different from each other?
I think both of questions are true..
At first my impression was Science and Asthetic are diffrent from each other because science has to be specific and exact. On the other hand, asthetic which is not correct could be changeable and variable. I still think that my impression was not wrong.
But I will ask you that science is always true?
Science is also changable. Science which we belive exactly could change.
Galilei Galileo belived the earth revolved around the sun which the Romantic Catholic Chunch against with. However revolving the earth now is true.
At that time, they belived wrong science.
We maybe know wrong science now.
In my conclusion, science and asthetic look diffrence but they are very similar.
